Tribute to Mothers of Nature

 Tribute to Mothers of Nature

On Mother's Day, we celebrate not only human mothers but also the mothers of all species who fight to protect and nourish their offspring.

For over 20 years, I have lived alongside pigeons, turtledoves, sparrows, and especially seagulls. These birds have become a part of my life and have taught me the true meaning of respect, harmony, and coexistence with nature. Years ago, I adopted—and still care for—two wingless seagulls, wonderful creatures who have shown me that these animals, contrary to common misconceptions, are clean, intelligent, and sociable. Throughout all these years, I have never contracted any disease from living with them.

Breaking Myths:

  • Seagulls are NOT dirty; they are highly clean and organized birds.

  • Pigeons DO NOT directly transmit diseases to humans. Although they may carry some insects, in 20 years, I have never suffered allergies or infections.

  • The real health problems come from human pollution, not animals.

The Impact of Ignorance: Many neighbors, influenced by misinformation, have unjustly harassed seagulls on their rooftops, especially during the breeding season. Years ago, I was even a victim of harassment by those who could not tolerate the presence of birds. Some neighbors resorted to fireworks, explosives, and threats against creatures that have lived in these areas for thousands of years. However, my fight has not been in vain: we have gathered 33,000 signatures to show that many of us care about the lives and well-being of these species, and we strongly reject any form of extermination.

Recognition and Scientific Study: My experience with seagulls was acknowledged in the ANIMALADES program by À Punt, highlighting the importance of living alongside these birds and their role in the ecosystem. Furthermore, my work continues to be used in university research to study their behavior and adaptation to urban environments.

A Simple Solution for Those Who Don’t Want Seagulls on Their Balcony: If someone prefers to keep seagulls from nesting on their terrace, there is no need to harm them. A hanging sheet in bright colors, a large inflatable figure, or shiny moving elements can deter their presence without causing suffering.

My Mission Continues: I will keep providing food and shelter to all birds in need. No matter the ignorance of those who fail to understand love, I will never stop caring for these creatures with the respect and affection they deserve.
